DAKHLA

THE SPOT IN DAKHLA

Water Sports Heaven all year long

Dakhla Lagoon is one of the world’s most iconic wind sports destinations. Located on a narrow peninsula between the Atlantic Ocean and the Sahara Desert, the lagoon offers an enormous natural playground with reliable wind, warm temperatures, and a variety of spots perfectly suited for kiteboarding and wingfoiling.

The Duotone Pro Center Dakhla currently operates three centers within the destination, allowing riders to explore different parts of the lagoon and enjoy the full diversity of the area. All centers are fully equipped with the latest Duotone equipment, including kites, wings, foils, twin tips, strapless boards, Click Bars, Trust Bars, and everything needed for lessons, rentals, and progression sessions.

For kitesurfers, the lagoon offers incredible space to practice and progress. Beginners benefit from the large, safe riding areas, while more experienced riders can work on freestyle tricks or enjoy long cruising sessions across the lagoon.

For wingfoilers, Dakhla provides a fantastic playground with steady wind and wide open water. The consistent conditions allow riders to practice long flights, work on jibes and tacks, or explore the lagoon on extended downwinders.

One of the highlights of the lagoon is the famous Speed Spot, a world-renowned flat-water area that becomes perfectly mirror-like during low tide. This location is a dream for Big Air riders in strong winds or Freestyler looking to push their limits in perfectly flat water.

Another unforgettable experience is the downwinder to the White Dune, one of the most spectacular landscapes in Dakhla. This iconic ride takes you across the lagoon to a stunning white sand dune rising directly out of turquoise water. In the wind shadow of the dune, the water becomes extremely flat, creating perfect freestyle and freeride conditions. The downwinder is also a fantastic adventure for wingfoilers looking to explore the lagoon and enjoy long gliding sessions.

For riders searching for waves, the Atlantic side of the peninsula offers several ocean spots such as Westpoint, where clean swells create exciting conditions for strapless kitesurfing and wave riding.

With its combination of flat water lagoons, freestyle playgrounds, scenic downwinders, and wave spots, Dakhla offers endless possibilities for both kiteboarders and wingfoilers. Whether you are taking your first lesson, improving your freestyle tricks, learning to foil, or exploring the lagoon on downwind adventures, Duotone Pro Center Dakhla is the perfect base to experience it all.

TEMPERATURE & RECOMMENDED WETSUIT THICKNESS

At our center, safety is paramount. All guests are required to be confident swimmers, as parts of the lagoon can be deep depending on the tide.

The water temperature in Dakhla ranges between approximately 17°C and 23°C throughout the year, while air temperatures remain warm thanks to the desert climate.

During spring and autumn we recommend using a 3/2 or 4/3 wetsuit for longer sessions. In the summer months many riders are comfortable using a shorty, neoprene top, or even boardshorts and a lycra.

WIND CONDITIONS

Dakhla is famous for its extremely consistent wind and is considered one of the most reliable wind destinations in the world with over 300 windy days per year.

The dominant wind direction is north to north-east, creating ideal side-shore to side-onshore wind conditions inside the lagoon. Wind strengths typically range between 15 and 35 knots, providing excellent conditions for both kiteboarding and wingfoiling.

Mornings are often slightly lighter with smoother water, making them perfect for lessons, technique training, and freestyle practice. During the afternoon the wind usually increases, creating stronger sessions ideal for big air, freestyle, long cruising runs, and downwind adventures.

SEASON

Duotone Pro Center Dakhla operates year-round, as the destination benefits from wind almost every month of the year.

The main season runs from March until October, when temperatures are warm and the wind is particularly consistent. During these months riders can expect long sunny days and excellent conditions on the lagoon.

The winter months are slightly cooler but still offer reliable wind and a quieter atmosphere, making it a great time for riders who prefer less crowded conditions.

With its unique combination of steady wind, huge riding areas, stunning desert scenery, and multiple riding spots, Dakhla Lagoon remains one of the most extraordinary destinations for kiteboarding and wingfoiling worldwide.
